About the project
Timeline: 2 Months
To ensure that the fertile top soil and sub soils were not mixed during the right-of-way excavation phase of a pipeline construction project, Horizon North was contracted by the pipeline contractor to provide services related to soil tilling. Horizon North transported five Wirtgen WR 240 reclaimers and the field operating crew to begin tilling the soils as required by the contractor.
The equipment is specialized in its ability to mill to specific depths of up to 50cm, which allowed for Horizon North to till and remove the frozen top soil and stock pile for later use, separate from the excavated sub soil. Horizon North’s Wirtgen WR 240 reclaimers also had the ability to mill the frozen excavated sub soil to a finer gradation to prevent any risk of damage when being backfilled on the newly installed pipe.
Horizon North provided value to the project by ensuring that the contractor could easily access the fertile top soils and prevent them from mixing with the sub-soils. This ensured that accurate soil stripping was accomplished meeting the environmental requirements while working on agricultural land.
