The matting segment is operated through Swamp Mats Inc., which provides a full service matting solution consisting of manufacturing, sales and rentals of mats, trucking, repair and maintenance, inventory control and storage.  The largest industry sector benefiting from the matting solutions are the oil and gas companies in the Western Canadian Sedimentary basin.

Much of western Canada’s northern regions are covered with muskeg and swamps, limiting the movement of equipment to the winter months when the ground is frozen.  The Swamp Mats matting is used to provide a temporary structural surface over the unstable ground to facilitate the movement and operation of heavy equipment.  Projects may also be interrupted during the summer months by periods of rain that soften the ground enough to make it impassible with equipment.  Utilizing matting on accesses or locations can extend a work season through almost any weather condition.

Swamp Mats’ two manufacturing facilities are situated in Grande Prairie and Anzac, Alberta (near Fort McMurray) and have the capacity to build the mat in a variety of wood species.  The industry’s primary choice is constructed of hardwood as it provides the best life cycle value.  The mats are constructed of 3 plies of 2” x 8” hardwood boards and bolted together to generate a finished size of 8’ x 14’ x 6”.  Between the two manufacturing facilities, Swamp Mats can build a combined quantity in excess of 100 mats per day at peak operating levels.

The mats are offered to our clientele for direct purchase or on a rental basis.  With both options, transportation, installation and removal services are provided as part of the matting solution package.  With client-owned inventory, Swamp Mats offers storage and inventory management programs to ensure that all matting needs are considered.  Inventory locations are situated across western Canada, making Swamp Mats one of the most convenient and service-oriented matting companies in the market.
