Horizon North is proud to release a commemorative video recognizing the efforts of our employees who helped evacuees and first responders during the tragic events of the 2016 Fort McMurray wildfire.
With approximately 80,000 residents being evacuated from the city of Fort McMurray as the wildfire approached, Horizon North opened the doors of the now destroyed Blacksand Executive Lodge. Approximately 1,250 evacuees were provided with shelter, food, care and most importantly, a safe refuge during such uncertain times.
By embracing Horizon North’s community centric values, staff members contributed to the relief effort in varying ways, from transforming the Lodge into a make shift evacuation centre, to feeding emergency responders with Horizon North’s temporary kitchens, and even managing a temporary RV park for displaced residents.
“Our employees’ response to Fort McMurray’s evacuation was entirely in keeping with the company’s commitment to our core values of Safety, Integrity, Community and Customer Focus,” said Rod Graham, President and CEO. “Horizon North rose to the challenge and helped Fort McMurray residents in their time of need. I’m extremely proud of our people for the compassionate and professional ways in which they responded to a crisis.”
