On August 14, 2017, Horizon North resumed access mat manufacturing operations in a Grande Prairie, Alberta facility managed by Mike Hammerschmidt, Vice President of Rentals and Logistics. The facility will be dedicated to producing inter-locking wood access mats for clients in geographic locations around Western Canada.
This past week Romer Dicang, Shop Lead; John Bon and Salvador, two experienced employees; and Mike Hammerschmidt were performing tests on the equipment to ensure safety and performance. Horizon North has been interviewing to hire employees for the facility with the first five scheduled to start on August 21, 2017. Hiring will continue at a measured pace with the intention to add additional employees to meet demand on a weekly basis.
“Growth opportunities through access matting rentals and soil stabilization, greater stability in oil and gas prices and a renewed commitment from our customers has given us the confidence to resume operations,” stated Rod Graham, President & CEO. “Clients and prospects are seeing the price of oil become more stable. This, along with an early spring in 2017 and solid demand for our products and services led to a decision to resume access mat manufacturing operations.”
General industry conditions and lower demand had resulted in an interruption in production in the Grande Prairie region over the past two years.
The Rentals and Logistics group is consolidating the access mat manufacturing process and their other operations in a new location at 14840-100 Street in Grande Prairie. The new location includes an office building with 33,962 square feet and access mat manufacturing space of approximately 5,000 square feet.
